Previous Ministry Activities, 1991-2011

Working Group members from 2002 to 2007 collaborated with NPC Marriage Council and Nurture Council to help NPC’s Baptist friends in Chisinau develop marriage ministries in their churches. In summer 2007, this effort led to a mission trip to the capital city Chisinau then subsequently to the beginning of the Moldova Marriage Ministry partnership. The group continues its work with the Moldova Baptist Union and Alpha International to promote the use in Moldova of The Marriage Course (developed by Alpha Ministries International at the Holy Trinity Brompton church in London). This effort resulted in the Moldova Marriage Ministry project which remains an important on-going activity joining Outreach and Nuture programs at the church. After a strong base is developed among Baptist churches, in conjunction with Alpha, the Moldova Marriage Ministry plans to expand its work to other denominations in Moldova, such as the Pentecostal church and perhaps the Moldovan Orthodox church.

In March 2010, the Moldovan support group at National Presbyterian hosted a dinner event at NPC highlighting its recent activities. Valeriu Ghiletchi was the guest speaker at the event.

Working Group members provide the seminary theological books through shipments of donated books received in the United States.

Working Group members are involved with Keys Ministries in a project where blankets are sent to a group at the Belts Church to sew in colors of the Child Evangelization Fellowship’s “Wordless Book”. The church then provides the blankets to orphanages with which the church is involved. The blankets keep the children warm and at the same time are an evangelistic tool the children can use in talking with their friends.

Marika Deriuseva, a youth ministry volunteer with Bethany Baptist Church in Belts, Moldova, has helped NPC with the blanket project since 2003 and served as an interpreter for the group during their Marriage Ministry Conference in June 2007. Marika wanted to participate in a leadership training internship in Washington, DC, so member of the group have worked with Marika’s supporters in other churches in the United States to make it possible for her to have a year-long internship at the Southeast White House in Anacostia. There she is involved in tutoring and mentoring elementary school children from at-risk families.

Working Group members remain in touch with members of the Belts Church and the seminary

Earlier projects

NPC was first contacted in 1991 by Bethany Baptist which inquired about establishing a "sister" church relationship. Europe Working Group members from NPC met with Pastor Ivan Yurchak of the Moldova church in June of 1993 during his visit to National.

Through Pastor Yurchak, NPC learned of the specific needs of the church of training and equipping leaders in children and adult ministries. A team from National visited Bethany Congregation and the seminary in August 1993, and other teams from National have gone to Moldova in September 1995, September 1996, and September 1999. When NPC teams arrive in Belts, they are warmly greeted as members of the family. God provides wonderful interpreters, and the team spend much time with the church and sharing the love of Christ throughout the community. Team members stay in Moldovan households, which is an important way to experience life in the former Soviet Union.

  • Working Group members raised money at NPC in 1998 to purchase a portable generator for the Bethany Church's summer camps.
  • Working group members also helped facilitate the shipment of a container of medical supplies to Moldova in 2000.
  • NPC has also been working with the seminary leadership to set up a Fellowship Center at its new building so that students can enjoy light food items and talk about their Christian faith. NPC members partnered with Keys Ministries to provide a container of furniture for a new residential wing of the seminary in 2000.
  • NPC helped the seminary library acquire a computer cataloguing system in 2002
